How To Choose The Right Colour Foundation
Makeup artists are trained to detect subtle variations in skin tone in order to choose the right foundation for you. Unfortunately, most of us don’t have a makeup artist in our back pocket and have to pick the right shade ourselves. The task of choosing the right foundation online can seem daunting. The same shade of foundation can look different on each device’s screen. The method of photography may also cause the foundation to look different than it does on your device. That’s why Juvia’s Place invented a simple, straightforward foundation shade finder to help women of all skin tones identify the perfect full coverage foundation. Juvia’s Place offers 42 unique skin tones to help every woman find the perfect full coverage foundation.
Mac Foundation Shades Explained: Tips To Find The Right Mac Foundation Shade
Each skin tone is unique and beautiful, subtle and complex, and often changes from the neck to the cheekbones. Choosing the right foundation for your skin tone online may seem complicated, but it’s actually very easy and just requires a little self-examination of the unique color that represents the epidermis, or outer layer of skin.
Before using Juvia’s Place’s Foundation Shade Finder, you should check your skin tone first. Your undertone is actually the key to getting the perfect shade for your skin tone. The undertone of the skin is usually divided into “cool”, “warm” and “neutral”. In Juvia’s Place, we have added an additional tone category – “Olives”. These terms represent colors that pass through your skin and affect the overall color or appearance of your skin. And these tones are available on all skin tones, from the darkest to the lightest. “Cold” tones have blue or pink colors. “Warm” tones give the skin a yellow, peach or golden appearance. Skin affected by an “olive” tone will have green or gray undertones, but they can also be “cool” or “neutral.” “Neutral” does not give light tones, but the natural color of the skin is more noticeable.
Correcting your undertones can be done in a number of ways. You really want to look at the part of the skin that gets less sun and is therefore less likely to be damaged by the sun. The underarm is one of the places where the undertone of the skin is often more noticeable. You can also check your veins.
Is your skin a little blue or purple? If so, then your undertone will be “cool”. Those with “green” veins probably have a “warm” undertone. “Olive” tones can reveal greenish or bluish veins, but like “neutral” tones, they are difficult to distinguish.
How To Color Match Foundation For Your Skin Tone
In addition, you can determine your tone by studying how your skin behaves in the sun and how certain colors look on you. Cool-toned people often look better in silver than in gold jewelry. Their skin rarely tans, but burns easily. They also look good in blue, pink and red. Those with “warm” undertones look best in gold jewelry and shades of gold, yellow, and peach.
“Olive” tones look best in bronze and gunmetal, their skin usually tans easily and rarely burns. People with a “neutral” tone have the privilege of looking beautiful in both gold and silver jewelry, and look best in blue or green.
This is it! Our Shade Finder tool will bring you back the perfect shade of coverage. Juvia’s Place prides itself on being an inclusive brand. Since online retailers are at the forefront of our shopping experience, this can be especially confusing. I know it’s better to see, touch and experience makeup before you buy it. However, buying makeup online is a pretty painless process… if you let it be!
I’m a big fan of buying my beauty products online because I know how to find my perfect shade and most retailers have generous return policies. Did you know that Sephora and Ulta let you return opened and used makeup, no questions asked? Just bring it with the receipt if not accepted.
How To Choose Foundation For Dark Skin Tones
It can also be confusing to figure out which shade to get at the drugstore without a tester. Keep reading to see my top tips on how to find the right foundation shade, both online and in-store!
If you’ve never worn foundation or never found a good color match, don’t skip this step!
This first step involves entering the store. I know I want to avoid shopping in stores at all costs, but this completely eliminates the confusion of where to start.
If you’ve never had a color match, never worn foundation, or feel like you’re wearing the wrong shade, my best advice for you is to get color matched in store. I think Sephora is a great place to start because of the variety of brands they carry. You’ll want to get a color match in several shades (I’d do 3-4)!
How To Choose The Right Foundation Shade ??
If you don’t have a local Sephora, visit a makeup counter (MAC does a pretty good job of this) and ask them to match you. I’ve found that Ulta can be very hit or miss with these, so I’d use them as a last resort.
Once you have a color match, you can seek the help of an experienced staff to look for that match on your skin with different products and samples. If you’re happy with it, good to go!
Did you know that Sephora can make you a sample of any foundation? Take advantage of this. Now you don’t need to buy anything (unless you really like the product and don’t need it).
Play with your undertones with undertone swatches (that suit you – yay!). Do they work well on your skin? Do you see them getting along really well? Now you’ve got a feel for your likes and dislikes and you’re ready to shop online! Yay for never having to dress up!
Foundation Matching: How To Pick The Right Shade Of Foundation
Now that you’ve found your color match and have a few foundations in your right shade, you can now easily shop for foundation online! This is also useful in a pharmacy, as you often won’t have a tester to take the sample.
Here are some of my favorite ways to find my right shade when shopping online or at the drugstore.
There are amazing online shadow finder tools out there. With these tools, you enter the brands and colors you know and wear in foundation and then they suggest matches in other brands and formulas!
Findation.com // This is my go-to when trying to find a foundation match. You enter the brands and shades you currently wear (the more you enter, the better your match) and it gives you a list of recommendations. Alternatively, you can search for a match on a specific product.
How To Find The Right Foundation Shade ???
Temptalia Foundation Matrix // This tool does the same thing as Findation, but if you have no idea what shades you’re wearing in the first place, you can start from scratch.
Sephora Shade Finder // Go to any foundation product page and you’ll see a button above the shades that says “Shade Finder.” Then you enter the brands/shades you currently wear and it will tell you how well that product matches. Very convenient!
I hope this has really simplified and simplified the fund compatibility and purchase process. Now you can expand your collection to include all brands, formulas, coverages and finishes! Happy bargain shopping!
