It’s no secret that Nars is one of my favorite color product brands, so today I thought we’d compare their best products so you can find out what works for you…
How To Choose The Right Nars Foundation Color
I don’t usually post with my favorite group, but we do it in order of coverage, so here it is! I don’t know how often Nars Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer SPF 30 PA +++ * (St. Moritz) | £34 | demonstration | but I’ve been using it for almost a decade! It’s fresh, radiant and shiny, but not “wet” to look too wet. It gives light coverage and somehow still eliminates redness and evens out my skin tone. In the end, it gives me skin that looks like skin! It also has great longevity for me; It’s non-greasy, doesn’t sink into fine lines, and doesn’t spread to problem areas. It just ticks all the boxes for me and when I get lost I come back and I don’t know why I left…
If You Buy One Thing This Month…
Nars’ newest release is their Light Reflecting Foundation * (Vanuatu) | £37.50. It comes across as a skin makeup hybrid; For me, a tinted moisturizer is more in that category, but in terms of ingredients, extras are never a bad thing and there’s vitamins C, E, and glycerin. It has a pretty unique formula and I would say it has a moisturizing finish, but it can work for oily skin types with the right preparation. It has an average buildable coverage; You could tone it down a bit if you wanted, but ultimately it’s a foundation rather than a skin tone. The texture is light and blends effortlessly – it never feels heavy on the skin and blends into it to create a flawless yet skin-like foundation. It’s really great for blushing, or if you want to even out your skin tone a bit. I would say the longevity is long, but if you are oily, you might get some shine in the area. It doesn’t settle into fine lines and I think it’s a great choice for mature skin types.
OG, the classic…is TheSheer Glow Foundation (Barcelona) | £35. This foundation doesn’t come with a pump, yet (!) and I don’t know why – I have to pay an extra £2 because there were times when these pumps were like gold dust to hold… That aside: it’s in the beauty community for a reason a favorite product and it still resists me. The name of this foundation seems a bit misleading to me though! It’s not traditional and it doesn’t shine in the traditional sense; it is a soft focus, like an atlas light. The coverage is medium but buildable and blendable so it’s not heavy at all. In general, as a layman: this is my foundation. It’s not matte, but it’s not hydrating and this long-lasting lotion will suit most skin types. It gives the skin a radiant glow and radiance and gives it a flawless look, as if you’ve just added a facelift. If you tend to go for heavier, matte foundations that look like you’ve stopped flattering your skin over the years: give this one a try.
I think it’s the Nars foundation that everyone has forgotten about, but I love the Natural Glow Longwear Foundation (Barcelona) | £37.50. It’s a creamier type of foundation that has a bit more coverage than Sheer Glove, but still not too much. You don’t need to use a lot of product and I mean it goes on as a medium coverage, but you can fully build it up. It has a very long-lasting finish – living up to the promise of its name – and I would say it has a natural athletic finish. It’s neither hydrating nor matte, it’s supposed to be too dry and too oily for most skin types. For me, Sheer Glow is my #1 pick, but I reach for it when I’ve had a long day and/or night and need glam makeup that lasts on my skin.
To finish, we have a stock full soft matte (Barcelona) | £28 I wouldn’t normally be interested in this product based on the name but it was in the PR and I really like the Soft Matte Complete Concealer so I thought I’d give it a go. And I was actually very surprised! Yes, I prep my skin with nice, moisturizing products, but I don’t find it drying or clinging to dry patches. While I use the other products in this post with a double-bristled brush, I really like using a damp sponge to brush it into my skin. It’s flat and dull matte, and while ‘matte’ isn’t my favorite finish, it’s a great option for a big night out if I don’t like my face shiny! And this goes on for hours and hours.
Foundation Collection ?
So there you have it! They’re all great, but my personal rating is based on my skin and makeup, which I accidentally switched the order I’m reviewing them in… I hope this post helps you figure out which of these foundations to use. may be the best for you. It’s hard to find a good foundation. Between narrowing down the right formula for your skin type and nailing the perfect shade, foundation shopping can be overwhelming. Luckily, NARS has released its Natural Glow Longwear foundation in 33 shades to help you look your best and flawless.
Fans of the iconic Light Cream Concealer will love this foundation. It has medium full coverage, is buildable and has 16 hours of wear. Conceals imperfections such as hyperpigmentation and nightmare redness. Best applied with a damp sponge, the Bright Long Wear Foundation also looks great when applied with a foundation brush.
It looks nice on its own, but I like to top it off with M.A.S. (Read more about my failure-based beauty here.)
NARS Luminous Longwear Foundation comes in 33 shades and retails for $60 (Canadian). Available now at major retailers where NARS is sold: Sephora, sephora.ca, Hudson’s Bay, Nordstrom, Murale and Shoppers Drug Mart.
